Why must we act now?

Climate protection is one of the most important social issues of our time. The  CO2 savings potential through energy efficiency of buildings plays a key role. As such, the German Federal Government launched a comprehensive strategy on 3 December 2014: the National Action Plan on Energy Efficiency (NAPE), which aims, among other goals, to make Germany's building stock virtually climate neutral by 2050. Energy efficient residential and commercial buildings will make an important contribution to the success of the energy transition. We are developing a comprehensive timetable to achieve this target and increase the proportion of our heat consumption provided from renewable energies: a holistic building strategy that will integrate electricity, heat and efficiency aspects, and specify the measures required.

What happened in winter 2007/08 is an indicator that energy supply shortages may soon become a reality for communities and public building owners. Oil price hikes that peaked to more than one euro per liter and price increases for wood fuel deliveries in the past had severe impact on consumers. To act now and to adopt energy saving measures is to plan for hard times of rising oil prices.
